My dyslexic child is incredibly gifted and intelligent. She struggles, however, to demonstrate her intelligence and abilities because she doesn't test well in a traditional test setting with typical tests. In our experience, the educational system will not and, because of class sizes and lack of funding, can not accomodate her in the way she needs (and we don't expect that the world outside of education will accomodate her, either), so we have spent years homeschooling her to give her the additional skills she needs to survive WITHOUT accomodation. Not only does this take time and dedication, it takes LOTS of money for the curriculii and tutors that we must purchase ourselves. This kind of donation allows us to better prepare our daughter for the high-stakes tests she must pass in order to continue her education and reach her potential.
